“Sun’s Gettin’ Low Buda” won Best in Show (1st place) in the 2nd Annual Buda Plein Air Art Festival 2021.
To make this, I spent 2 evenings sitting under, and looking up at the old historic windmill recently relocated from Buda’s Main Street Station to the parking lot between the old Buda library building and Inspired Minds Art Center on Main Street, plus a little touch up time at my studio to complete it. I loved the orange evening light on the metal blades in contrast to the blue sky and magnificent clouds we’ve had.
I’m so so thankful that I pushed myself to finish it because, well, she got me there.
Also, a nod to my mother’s influence on this one. She had always wanted me to paint her a windmill painting, and I think subconsciously, that’s why I was drawn to it. She seemed to be there, nudging it along, down to the windmill even moving back into place on the 2nd night right as I resigned to “paint as much as I could” with it facing a different way. Here’s your windmill, Mom.
Again, thank you to all of you who follow along and support my journey here, it’s so much fun sharing it with you!
